United States of America

Edward Snowden told the world what about what the National Security Agency was doing. He said, " I had been looking for leaders, but I realized that leadership is about being the first to act." this is a very important messenger we all have to learn from. If we want something to happen we have to act and do something about it.

Some South African platinum miners went on a strike in 2014. Many were injured and some were even killed by riot police. It lasted for 5 months, and the miners were awarded an extra R1000 ( about 55 pounds ) per month. This shows if you work hard for something it will be awarded. Standing Rock, North Dekota

Spare parts review

The fact that the movie is so similar to the original story, amazed me.

The items the team had to use on the robot, forced them to think in new ways, eventually leading to them being the only team to finish the last task.

Robots can be used for a lot more than just for fun and entertainment, they are highly useful in areas like health, transport and making our lives easier, now robots have replaced many jobs, which is a bad thing. Robots can also be used in warfare instead of human beings.

Trumps government has employed a very strict immigration policy, which makes it a lot harder for foreigners to enter the US.

Climate change revisited

Cimate change

Today, we spoke with students from India and Israel. They told us about their environmental challenges, and what they did to conserve the environment.

In India, their main concerns were air pollution and flood. The air was polluted because of the extreme coal usage, while the flood may be caused by the geological structure of the Indian ocean. The main concern in India, is the water fog mixing with the factory emissions. This makes the citizens fee like they were living in a gas chamber.

They were also concerned about the old and outdated technology, which causes high emissions and low energy outputs.

In south Australia, they reduced environmental emissions by building solar panels.

In Adelaide, they do not agree with Trump`s environmental policy. They were willing to do everything they could to reduce global warming, and emissions.

We also watched a ted talk by two sisters from Bali. They worked hard to reduce the usage of plastic bags, and they actually succeeded in completely removing plastic bags from the country, which is truly amazing.

Gretha Thunberg is a 16 year old environmental activist from Sweden. She has made great effort informing world leaders about the climate changes that are happening today. She criticizes world leaders for ignoring and avoiding environmental problems, that have to be addressed. She has gained followers all around the world.

Facts vs fear

Facts are a very supressed compared to fear in todays immigration politics. Facts could say that immigration is good for the economy, or the happiness of the people. Fear could be hate against these people, and this hate could be because they dont actually know what theyre like. The title says that there is two main campaign forms in immigration and imdependance politics, making people fear foreigners, or making them face the facts.

Brexit is Great Britains withdrawal from the EU. After an election in 2016, they tried to negotiate a deal, but it took a long time. Brexit has been for 2 years, and will likely end in them not leaving the EU.

The wall of fear

The wall of fear

1. The story behind the wall on the US-Mexico border started during Trump's election campaign. He said that to prevent illegal immigration from Mexico, the US must build a wall on the border. Trump also said that Mexico was going to pay for it, which they haven't and probably never will.

2. The wall is important for Trump because he thinks it will stop illegal immigration. So important in fact, that he has initialized a lockdown on the white house, resulting in many people not getting any payment for their work.

3. A government shutdown occurs when the Congress fails to appropriate funds. Non-essential programs close, due to the federal budget not being accepted. Trump doesn't accept it before he gets to build the wall. There have been several government shutdowns, the first happened in 1976, and it lasted ten days.

4. There are indeed some similarities, the obvious one being the separation from other countries, becoming independent of them.

5. People who work for the government are most affected, but also firefighters, police and medical emergency workers.

6. That you have to take responsibility for something instead of passing it on to someone else

Is it brave to suffer n silence

Fact becomes fiction
In the story, fact becomes fiction when the boy is told about the differences between the metric and imperial system. The boy thought he was gonna die, because he "knew" that a person would die when having 102 in fever, but it became fiction when he was told about the system differences.

Hemingway`s style
The sentence structure is short, and very direct. Ernest learned this while working for a newspaper in Kansas. If you study the text, you can see that his vocabulary and sentence structure is from the 40s and 50s. Hemingways style is calles the Iceberg theory. It basically says that the text will be a lot better if the writer knows what he is writing about. The dialogue between the boy and father is a great example of Hemingways direct writing style.

A days wait
"A days wait" is about a boy believing he is going to die, but later finds out that he wont. The boy is a nine year old german, living in france.

Ernest was quite a cool and macho man. A lot of people admired him and wanted to be like him

Dear Leonardo Di Caprio

We just saw the documenary "Before the flood", and we were very surprised by the extreme environmental change caused by human actions. I was most surprised by the sand oil extraction procedure and the Mordor-looking area.

I`m gonna be honest. A lot of what you showed us in the movie i already knew, like the palm oil plantations and ice melting on Greenland. Still, it is unimaginable until you actually see it, and after watching the documentary i was extremely surprised of how devastating these things actually look in real life.

The most important thing to remember from the movie is in my opinion the footage of the rainforests and orangutangs. This would have a very emotional effect on people, and maybe encourage them to watch the movie or (even better) change their lifestyle.
